In 1295, Marco Polo returned to his hometown of Venice after a grueling 25-year journey. But peace was short-lived, as the tranquil life of Venice was shattered by a naval battle with Genoa. Tragically, Marco Polo was captured and imprisoned in a Ligurian jail. It was here that he met Rustichello, a gifted writer known for his tales of adventure. Together, they collaborated to chronicle Marco Polo’s extraordinary 25-year expedition, resulting in the book *The Travels of Marco Polo*. Thus, the mysterious allure of the East began to unfold slowly—and dramatically—upon Western society.
"The Travels of Marco Polo" is not only a travelogue about Asia but also the first work through which Europeans began to perceive the Orient. It unveiled to Europe a mysterious and bountiful Eastern world, igniting a deep sense of fascination and a desire for exploration among Europeans—and profoundly influencing the subsequent Age of Exploration. At the same time, this remarkable account stands as a crucial historical source for studying the history and geography of the Yuan Dynasty, making it an invaluable resource of immense historical and cultural significance.
This year marks the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's passing, and the Sichuan Museum is presenting the exhibition "A Legendary Journey: Marco Polo and the World Along the Silk Road." The show brings together 84 exquisite Italian artifacts alongside more than 190 precious Chinese relics—ranging across diverse categories such as oil paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, ceramics, glassware, jewelry, textiles, and blue-and-white porcelain. With its rich and engaging display, the exhibition invites visitors on a captivating journey through time, transporting them back to that enchanting era.
Harnessing the power of cultural artifacts, retrace Marco Polo’s footsteps. Discover the vibrant cultural exchanges and交融 along the Silk Road—both the overland and maritime routes—and experience the profound depth and richness of ancient Eastern civilizations.
This exhibition is held at the Sichuan Museum, presenting the rich and diverse cultural landscape of Marco Polo's era—and bringing to life his legendary journey, which was no easy feat. Equally challenging was seamlessly integrating the exhibition design with deep cultural insights. Shaanxi Yiyu Cultural Media has risen to this challenge by crafting an ingenious display that vividly unveils the historical and cultural significance behind each artifact, inviting visitors to step back in time and engage in a dialogue with history itself. Achieving this balance between artistic expression and cultural preservation required finding the perfect harmony between aesthetics and heritage.
In this exhibition, Top-Space took on the critical responsibility of providing end-to-end logistics and transportation services for the precious cultural relics. Leveraging their extensive experience in customs clearance and exhibition management—as well as their deep-rooted expertise in relic packaging and transport—the team approached every step with unwavering professionalism and meticulous craftsmanship. From carefully securing the artifacts for safe transit to meticulously planning the most efficient shipping routes, and even refining the exhibition design down to the smallest detail, no aspect was overlooked. Thanks to the steadfast support and seamless collaboration from Chengdu Customs, the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center, the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Appraisal Institute, the Sichuan Museum, and Wenze Times, the team successfully navigated numerous challenges and delivered a flawless, breathtaking showcase of these invaluable treasures.
Exhibition Prelude
The safety of transporting 84 exquisite cultural relics—masterpieces from 11 Italian museums—is of paramount importance. These priceless artifacts, which carry the weight of historical memory, are incredibly sensitive to environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light during transit, leaving no room for even the slightest mistake. Even minor jolts or fluctuations in conditions could cause irreversible damage to these irreplaceable treasures. To ensure their safe journey, Tiandi Zhongxing has provided specially equipped, climate-controlled vehicles capable of maintaining constant temperature and humidity levels. Throughout the entire transport process, we adhere strictly to the national standards set by China’s State Administration of Cultural Heritage for relic transportation, meticulously implementing rigorous environmental control measures to safeguard these invaluable cultural relics.
Top-Space (Guangzhou) Art Exhibition Co., Ltd. offers a comprehensive range of services, including: international and domestic transportation of artworks (including rare and valuable pieces), as well as cross-border transport between mainland China and Hong Kong; customs clearance for artworks entering and leaving the country, including streamlined procedures within bonded zones; on-site support at art fairs held both domestically and internationally; warehousing and packaging services for artworks; bonded storage solutions for art collections; and integrated services such as art insurance brokerage and trade agency—all delivered by experts in the art industry.
